EARLY LIFE
Angela Weigel was born in Denver, Co and raised on a small farm town in Massachusetts. She grew up on a small family farm raising various fruits and vegetables, cows, chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats, rabbits and one very special house pig: Olive. She began dancing at age 3, and it didn’t take long for the hobby to become a passion.
She started competing in dance competitions at age 8, dancing in styles ranging from lyrical and ballet to tap, acro and jazz, and rose to win several awards. Some of Angela’s favorite awards include winning 2011, 2012 and 2014 Turn It UP Dance Challenge title winner, 2014 America’s Dancer of the Year Runner up for American Dance Awards, and Teen Miss Headliner in 2012.
Her most prized award she has won was the Headliners Award for Excellence given at Headliners Nationals 2014 in Providence, RI. This award was given to only one senior and one teen dancer at the national competition, and granted Angela her name in DanceSpirit magazine, as well as her photo on the back of Headliner’s competition program for the whole following season.
While growing up Angela was very active in her town community and frequently performed at her local church, taught a dance afterschool program at Rochester Memorial School, and acted as “Plumbelina” a dancing fairy who read and taught children basic ballet steps at the Plumb Memorial Library.
COLLEGE
Wanting to continue exercising her love and passion for dance, Angela attended and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst(UMass), with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a minor in education and a certificate in Developmental Disabilities and Human Services (DDHS), in May 2019.
There, Angela received the Friends of Dance Research Award for her senior thesis research and presented her research findings in the "5 College Dance Symposium". While at UMass Angela was also vice president of the UMass Dance company where she choreographed for each of the 8 showcases she took part in, varying in styles from contemporary to jazz and lyrical.
Angela has experience choreographing with children ages 2-18 in all styles of dance and her choreography has won many adjudicating and overall awards at various dance competitions. This includes one of her soloists who won Teen Miss Turn It Up in 2019. She also composed and showcased a production of the Nutcracker, performed virtually, for The Children’s Ballet and Movement Co in 2020.
